Rod Strong first planted chardonnay in the white volcanic soils of Chalk Hill in 1965, and this estate-grown wine carries a memory of that chalky soil in its mineral freshness and apple-skin spice. It’s clean and powerful, that power driven by some reduction that keeps the wine tight. Give it time in a decanter to open up, then serve as an aperitif with poached prawns.

A really delicious chardonnay with green-apple pie, lime, pie-crust and some vanilla character. Full-bodied, yet it remains fresh and focused. Crisp finish. Excellent for the money. Drink or hold.

Broad and smoky, this is an unabashedly rich chardonnay, driven by the textural fullness of its alcohol, lasting on notes of mineral salts, along with pineapple and lime. Supple and appealing.
French oak added toasty vanilla and spice complexities; creamy texture on the palate creamy and crisp, with golden delicious yellow apple, baked pie spices and a hint of minerality on the long finish.
